How does it taste?

SunLeaf has a mild "earthy or grassy" flavor. Most people say it tastes similar to green tea (Matcha).

How do I use it?

One tablespoon added to your favorite smoothie/drink/food once a day to help ensure adequate nutrition and protein in your diet.

Vitamin D and Calcium

Vitamin D is an essential nutrient needed for calcium absorption and mineralization to maintain bone health and may contribute to immune system health.

 

The primary dietary sources of vitamin D are animal-based, in the form of D3 (cholecalciferol). For those who enjoy a plant-based diet, vitamin D deficiency can be a challenge.

Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) found in plants is a better choice for those who prefer a plant-based diet. *Studies have shown that vitamin D2 is equally as effective as vitamin D3 in maintaining 25-hydroxyvitamin D status.

 

SunLeaf  has over 400% the recommended daily value of Vitamin D per serving

 

D2 and D3 are metabolized in the liver into 25-hydroxyvitamin D, or in the kidney to produce the active form of vitamin D, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Active forms of vitamin D act on target tissue receptors to influence not only bone health, but a wide range of immune functions that may help our body fight off diseases and cancers.

Potassium

Potassium is an essential dietary nutrient needed for proper kidney function, nerve transmission and muscle contraction. Clinical studies suggest potassium supplementation reduces blood pressure and decrease risk of stroke.

 

Is potassium sourced from plants better for my health?

Plant sources of potassium come in variety of forms: potassium phosphate, sulfate, citrate, aspartate, bicarbonate, and gluconate. Lab made synthetic dietary supplements typically come in only one form, potassium chloride. 

Iron

Iron supports muscle metabolism and healthy connective tissue .  Iron is also necessary for physical growth, neurological development, cellular functioning, and synthesis of some hormones.

 

As a vegetarian, do I get enough iron?

 

Plants and iron-fortified foods contain nonheme iron only, whereas meat, seafood, and poultry contain both heme and nonheme iron.

The RDAs (recommended daily allowances) for vegetarians are 1.8 times higher than for people who eat meat.

SunLeaf (100% duckweed) is a complete protein with all essential amino acids. Cereals, seeds, and nuts are typically low in lysine. Legumes like beans, lentils, and peas are typically low in cysteine and methionine. Sunleaf , in line with FAO recommendations, is amino acid balanced.

Is SunLeaf Safe?

Duckweed has been used in Asian cultures for food and as traditional medicine for centuries. More recent scientific studies have found no adverse effects, allergic reactions, or adverse health effects in clinical trials. In fact, studies have shown smaller changes in glucose and insulin levels when compared to whey protein in a human diet, which means a diet rich in duckweed may help people struggling with type-2 diabetes.

In contrast to plant-based protein products from common crops such as soybean or pea, Sunleaf  is predominantly derived from leafy tissues of duckweed which contain no seed related components and few root tissues.
